Range Rover Evoque Autobiography Dynamic: pictures and full details

Wed, 19 Feb 2014

Bam – how’s that for an attention-grabbing colour? This is the new Range Rover Evoque Autobiography Dynamic, and it’s more orange than the entire cast of TOWIE dropped into a blender.

The reason we’ve all been Tangoed is simple – the Autobiography Dynamic joins the Evoque range at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show as a new high-performance model.

Range Rover Evoque Autobiography Dynamic: technical details

With 285hp and 295lb ft of torque from its 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, it’s 45hp and 44lb ft more potent than the previous top dog – if still some way short of the likes of the 310hp Audi RS Q3 and the new 400hp Porsche Macan Turbo.

Changes spread further than the engine department, however, as the new Evoque’s nine-speed ZF automatic gearbox has also been reprogrammed to deliver extra aggression, and the chassis has been completely overhauled.

In addition to stiffer springs, retuned adaptive dampers and alterations to the suspension geometry, Land Rover has sensibly fitted 350mm front brakes and Torque Vectoring by Braking (TVB) as standard.

TVB uses the brakes to reduce understeer and improve steering response, by slowing the inside wheels during cornering. Similar technology is deployed by overtly sporting cars ranging from the Ford Fiesta ST to the McLaren 12C.

Exact performance figures are yet to be announced.

Range Rover Evoque Autobiography Dynamic: design

Inevitably, the styling has been given a polish, with the Evoque Autobiography Dynamic getting a unique front valance and "premium" grille, not to mention 20-inch forged alloy wheels.

Autobiography "ingot" badges make an appearance for the first time on an Evoque – usually these appear on posh versions of full-size Range Rovers and Range Rover Sports – while that eye-popping is called "phoenix orange".

On the inside, buyers will be able to choose from six different leather interior finishes, complete with Autobiography embossed head rests. Naturally the Autobiography tread plates are illuminated.

The car will also debut a new "Land Rover InControl Apps" smartphone integration system, bringing a new touch to the on-board infotainment.

Range Rover Evoque Autobiography Dynamic: prices and on-sale date

Land Rover is yet to announce full pricing and specification details, but the Evoque Autobiography Dynamic leaps straight to the top of the range, so expect to pay well in-excess of the £45,650 demanded for the current top-spec Evoque Si4 Dynamic Lux with 240hp.

The new model will be on sale this year; we’ll bring you more when we know it, direct from the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March.

What else is Land Rover showing at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show?

Land Rover has also confirmed it will show off a 25th anniversary special edition version of the Discovery at Geneva. Called the Discovery XXV, this gets special paint, a Windsor leather interior and unique 20-inch alloy wheels. It’s also rumoured to be priced at over £60,000.

We don’t doubt the firm may have a surprise or two waiting in the wings as well – after all, an all-new Defender is also said to be on the drawing board…
