Rolls-Royce Celebrates 110 Years Of Excellence

Wed, 07 May 2014

LUXURY car make Rolls-Royce has celebrated its 110th anniversary in style, with a gathering of cars at both Goodwood motor racing circuit and Manchester’s Midland Hotel.

The locations are significant, as the Midland Hotel was the setting for the first meeting of Charles Rolls and Henry Royce. Meanwhile, Goodwood has become the marque’s adopted home since the split from Bentley and sale to BMW. The firm’s hi-tech production facility is a short walk from the famous Goodwood circuit.

Sunday 4 may marked the date Charles Rolls and Henry Royce met for the first time exactly 110 years ago and agreed to form the company that would become synonymous with luxury motoring.

At Goodwood three contemporary Rolls-Royce motor cars – Wraith, Phantom Coupé and Ghost – were displayed as part of the ‘Supercar Sunday’ Breakfast Club meeting at the circuit. The event was the largest in the history of the Breakfast Club, with 1,000 cars on display inside the circuit and more than 14,000 visitors.
