Rolls-Royce Ghost V-Specification dialed up to 593-hp

Tue, 07 Jan 2014

Just before a refreshed Rolls-Royce Ghost debuts at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the British automaker has rolled out a performance edition of its "entry level" sedan with 593-hp underhood. The standard Ghost sedan wasn't exactly short on power until the announcement of the V-Specification version -- the company's 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine produces 563-hp and 575 lb-ft of stump-pulling torque in standard form. Yes, gone are the days when Rolls-Royce declined to disclose exact power figures and simply listed their powerplants' output as "adequate." Now Rolls-Royce is forced to compete in this cutthroat market with its performance stats, it seems.

Putting aside the question of whether a bump from 563-hp to 593-hp will be detectable either by James the chauffeur or his rear seat passenger, the V-Specification Ghost will be more easily distinguishable by the 21-inch five-spoke part-polished wheels borrowed from the Wraith, which are sure to give it a more sporting look. Optional visible chrome exhaust tips and a choice of five new exterior paint options will also be on offer in addition to the standards Rolls-Royce color palette, including Graphite, Black Sapphire, Black Kirsch, Arctic White, and Infinity Black. A hand painted coachline (pinstriping to us Americans) will be featured with every color option.

The interior receives a few V-Specification details.

On the inside, the Rolls Royce Ghost will include the V-Specification motif on the rear armrest, the entertainment system door on the dash, as well as on the sill plates. A number of new details such as contrast piping and stitching, as well as a different clock design will further distinguish this version of the Ghost.

Pricing for this version has not been announced -- it all depends on which options one chooses, though it's worth mentioning that the base price for the standard Ghost in short-wheelbase form is around $252,000. Rolls-Royce will offer slightly different V-Specification packages for the Ghost in China and Japan, though it would be interesting see if this limited edition survives the impending facelift of the sedan in March of this year.
