SPD offers scholarships for autumn program with Volkswagen Group

Wed, 10 Aug 2011

The Scuola Politecnica di Design is giving away eight scholarships for its autumn program in collaboration with the Volkswagen Group. The scholarships are aimed at students with degrees in transportation or car design, automotive engineering or equivalent degrees that show a high level of potential. The successful eight students will be given scholarships and will begin their studies at the Milan-based SPD on October 24.

The awarding of the scholarships will be decided by a ‘motivational interview', an evaluation of the student's portfolio and the submission of a conceptual project assignment, with the election process being conducted jointly by the SPD and Volkswagen.

Volkswagen Group Design will take an active part into the didactic program by providing experts' lectures and workshops with the designers from the various studios of the group with the supervision of Walter de'Silva.

SPD and Volkswagen share a long history of investing in young and talented designers who may later join the Wolfsburg-based automaker's design studios. With both groups collaborating on this project, it is hoped that they can offer students with high potential internships and possible job opportunities to help them progress on becoming an automotive designer.

The SPD has completed a number of experimental projects in association with the Volkswagen Group Design over recent years, led by Walter de'Silva. In 2010 a five-year partnership agreement was signed between the SPD and VW for the development of urban mobility concepts in the framework of the city of Milan.
