Shelby GT500, Camaro ZL1 and a length of empty asphalt

Tue, 28 Aug 2012

A few weeks ago, we were given a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 and a Chevy Camaro ZL1. Every automotive media outlet on the planet has compared these two cars over and over again since the 2013 GT500 joined the ZL1 on the market earlier this year.

Here's a summary of those hundreds of comparison tests: The Camaro handles better and the Mustang is faster in a straight line. There you go.

The truth is that almost no one who is actually considering buying one of these cars gives a damn which one is "better," or faster, or which has a better interior. Most of the guys who are shopping for the ne plus ultra Chevrolet Camaro, or the top-of-the-heap Mustang made their mind up on the whole Chevy vs. Ford thing years ago.

So, if comparing these cars is moot, why don't we rent an airfield and hoon them on camera for a few hours?
