Shortlist announced for Interior Motives Student Design Awards 2010

Fri, 10 Sep 2010

Shortlisted entries have been announced for the 2010 Interior Motives Student Design Awards. The competition culminates in a glitzy prize-giving ceremony in Paris on the evening of October 1, the first day of the motor show.

This year's crop of the brightest and the best serves to illustrate the global pool of teaching as well as student talent. Students being tutored at colleges in Brazil, Iran, Israel, Mexico, Slovakia and Russia are included in the 64-strong 'short' list.

The judges have refined that number down to 22 finalists, from whom the nine awards winners are selected. Entrants worked to briefs set by Peugeot and Volkswagen under the theme "Driving the Interior Revolution", and the prizes are for:

Best innovationBest use of materialsBest lifestyle interiorBest eco design conceptBest production interiorBest use of technologyBest conceptual interiorBest driver experience and, to keep the interior design relevant,Best conceptual exterior

From the nine category-winning entries, one will be voted by the judges as the overall Student Design of the Year.

The work of the 22 finalists, along with the nervous students themselves, will be on display at the ceremony being held at Le Palais des Congrès d'Issy, a 15-20 minute walk from the venue of the motor show (public buses run from the entrance to the motor show past the awards venue).

Interior Motives is the print publication from CDN, and is organizing its eighth year of these awards. Open to students studying full-time in any design discipline, they have become a part of the final year program for many colleges.

The judging panel includes head designers from PSA Peugeot Citroen, Amko Leenarts, Head of Interior Design at Peugeot; Andreas Stump, Head of Advanced Interior Design at Citroen; and Double Du, Design Chief in China. From Volkswagen: Romulus Rost, Head of Interior Design and Wolfgang Müller-Pietralla, Head of Future Affairs. They are joined by Moray Callum, Executive Director for Ford Americas Design; Eric Clough, Director of Interior Design for General Motors' Cadillac division; Robin Page, Head of Interior Design at Bentley; Tony Williams, Design Director of the SAIC Technical Centre in the UK; and Michael Robinson, Brand and Design Director at Bertone.

The judging panel was chaired by Euan Sey, Editor of Interior Motives.

As well as support from Peugeot and VW, the Awards have gold sponsorship by Autodesk, Dinamica, Faurecia, Johnson Controls, Seton Leather and SRG Global, and silver sponsorship by Design Consulting, General Motors, ISD Valenciennes and Uedelhoven Studios.
