Subaru Impreza WRX STI S206

Scooby fans do like a limited edition Impreza, so their collective mouths will be watering at the news that a new Impreza is on the block – the  Impreza WRX STI S206.

But before you all get too excited, Subaru has no plans to bring any of the 300 S206s to the UK – they’re all for the JDM and are going straight on sale in Japan, with an S206 taking pride of place on Subaru’s stand at the Tokyo Motor Show next week.

Subaru say the S206 is the Crown Jewel of the STI cars, and Subaru have given the S206 a raft of updates over the standard WRX STI.

Those changes include an extra 20bhp – the S206 gets 316bhp – with torque increased to 318lb/ft. That extra power is achieved by sprinkling STI fairy dust on the ECU, an enhanced twin-scroll turbo, fitting a sports exhaust and lowering the back pressure.

For some reason Subaru hasn’t given us any performance figures for the S206, but they do claim the power tweaks mean better throttle response and improved mid-range torque for additional driveability.

Changes to the suspension on the S206 include special Bilstein shocks at the front with STI springs, a flexible front tower bar and draw stiffener which, Subaru say, improves straight line performance and sets the car up better for corners.

On the looks front, Subaru has given the S206 a new set of alloys, a new front spoiler and grill, a new rear spoiler, Recaro seats with red seatbelts, new steering wheel and an STI starter button.

S206 buyers can also opt for the NBR Challenge pack which adds a carbon fibre roof and rear spoiler, red door sills and a Nurburgring Challenge graphic. The NBR Challenge Package will only be available on 100 of the 300 Impreza WRX STI S206 being built.

The problem is, we think all 300 cars – including the 100 NBR Challenge Pack Editions – are already sold out in Japan.
