Tesla Model S sedan catches fire in owner's garage

Fri, 14 Feb 2014

Another Tesla Model S sedan has caught on fire. This time, however, the four-month-old electric vehicle didn't hit road debris; according to Business Insider, the car's owner returned from a drive and parked the car in the garage. Moments later, the smoke detector went off, indicating a fire.

Last month, Tesla agreed to replace owners' wall chargers to fix a potential overheating problem that could have sparked a fire in California. But this Model S reportedly wasn't plugged in at the time.

Though Tesla has not commented on the particulars of this incident, the company reportedly has personnel on the scene and has offered to pay for any damages the blaze might have caused. Tesla has generally been open and upfront with the public following previous events; after a Model S fire last year, it invited the NHTSA to launch an investigation. It resulted in no vehicle recall, and the company has continued to claim that, "The Model S continues to have the best safety track record of any vehicle in the world."
