Trident Iceni 6.6 litre diesel V8 at Salon Prive
Thu, 23 Aug 2012Salon Prive 2012 will play host to the Trident Iceni Grand Tourer – a custom built 6.6 litre V8 diesel-powered supercar – next month.
Diesel engines and high performance cars – however good diesel engines have now become – are not synonymous with supercars. But no one seems to have told Norfolk car makers Trident.
The Trident Iceni comes with a 6.6 litre diesel V8 with a decent enough 430bhp, but a planet moving 950lb/ft of torque, or if you’re feeling really brave an upgrade to 660bhp and 1050lb/ft of torque is on offer.
Trident claim that the diesel V8 – which can also run on mineral diesel, bio diesel, palm oil and linseed oil (perfect if you’re a carpenter) – can propel the Iceni to 60mph in 3.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 200mph.
Even more astonishingly, the Iceni is said to travel at 70mph at just 980rpm at which point it’s still producing 700lb/ft of torque but is averaging 69mpg, enough for a range of 2000 miles. Yes, you read that right – 2000 miles.
So how much do you think a V8 diesel-powered supercar with all that power and the ability to travel for 2000 miles on a tank of fuel will cost? Whatever your guess, you’re probably wrong.
Trident want a paltry £75,000 for their astonishing diesel supercar, which is about the same as a well-specced BMW 6 Series. It may be a bit odd-looking, and we have our doubts about how well it’s going to be able to put all that torque to use, but it seems something of a supercar bargain.
You can judge for yourself as the Trident Iceni will be on show at Salon Prive 2012 from 5th September.
