The first U.S. Grand Prix at the Circuit of Americas in Austin, Texas, see Vettel on pole. Can he secure the drivers and constructors championship?

Formula One Racing returns to America with the first F1 Grand Prix on U.S. soil in five years, but it’s business as usual with Vettel on pole in the Red Bull.

And that pole was important with the virgin Texas track delivering up poor grip for second place Hamilton, who lost his second place to Mark Webber as the lights went out and Vettel disappeared off in to the lead..

But once Hamilton got his tyres working properly he hunted down and despatched Webber to reclaim his second place and set about Vettel. Meanwhile, Alonso – who had jumped up a place after Ferrari broke the seal on Massa’s gearbox to incur a five place penalty to move Alonso up one place to sixth on the grid – found himself in third place after Webber dropped out with a KERS issue.

After the pit stops – a good one for Hamilton, a poor one for Alonso – Alonso was under pressure from Button but kept his third place and, on lap 42, Hamilton pulled a stunning overtake with DRS on Vettel to take the lead.

It was a brave move – although Vettel was unimpressed – but second place by Vettel was enough to secure the constructors title for Red Bull, but not enough for Vettel to secure the drivers title.

That goes down to the wire in Brazil with Alonso 13 points behind the German. It should be a good race.
