VW Golf MK 7: BlueMotion & 4Motion announced

Wed, 10 Oct 2012

Volkswagen has revealed additional engine options for the VW Golf MK 7 – 1.2 & 1.4 TSI BlueMotion – and 4Motion 4WD.

Unsurprisingly, Volkswagen is going to be offering their eco-star BlueMotion setup in the new Golf with two petrol options available and the option of ACM (Active Cylinder Management).

Entry-level for the new Golf BlueMotion will be the 1.2 litre TSI with 105PS with a more powerful version with the 1.4 litre 122PS engine also available. They’ll get the usual mix of tyres, stop-start and aerodynamic tweaks to help squeeze every last mile out of a gallon, and the 1.4 litre will also get the option of Active Cylinder Management to turn off half the engine when the load is light.

VW says the BlueMotion petrols will be available with either a six-speed manual or the seven-speed DSG, but what they’re not telling us is how much more frugal they will be than the versions without BlueMotion.

Also on offer in the new Golf will be VW’s 4Motion all wheel drive setup which is going to be an option on the 1.6 litre TDI BlueMotion or the 2.0 litre TDI BlueMotion with a manual ‘box.

Finally, VW are offering the Driver Assistance Pack which offers Adaptive Cruise, Bi-Xenons with LED running lights, Dynamic Light Assist, Lane Assist, Traffic Sign Detection and Light and Sight Pack.

We’ve asked Volkswagen UK when the petrol BlueMotion and 4Motion MK 7 Golfs will be available in the UK, and they say it will be late in 2013 before they arrive here.
