VW Polo Blue GT

Volkswagen has revealed the VW Polo Blue GT, a performance Polo with a 1.4 TFSI engine but with eco credentials.

The VW Polo Blue T seems to be an oxymoron; can you have an eco performance car? VW certainly thinks so and has revealed the Polo Blue GT with BlueTechnology and a decent turn of speed.

The Blue GT gets the VW 1.4 litre TFSI with 138bhp, but it also gets a cylinder deactivation system which closes down the middle two cylinders under light loads. That means the Polo Blue GT can hustle to 62mph in 7.9 seconds and on to 131mph – just a second slower than the Polo GTI – but comes with average fuel consumption of 60.1mpg, or 62.7mpg is you opt for the 7-speed dual clutch ‘box.

The Polo Blue GT gets 17″ alloys and GT badges, suspension lowered by by 15mm, a rear spoiler, diffuser, and the front bumper from the GTI complete with LED running lights. Black painted grill and door mirrors set the Blue GT apart.

Inside the Polo Blue GT borrows from the GTI with a black headlining and GTI instruments. The seats are Blue GT sports seats and the steering wheel is leather with a BlueGT logo.

The VW Polo Blue GT goes on sale in July. VW has not yet revealed prices.
