Vauxhall Corsa ecoFlex 98g/km revealed

The new Vauxhall Corsa ecoFLEX for 2010 with 98g/km CO2 emissions

As I think we’ve said before – another day, another Eco car.

A few days a go we had the new BlueMotion Golf coming in at a chunk under it’s previous iteration on the CO2 emissions front, and today we’ve got Vauxhall’s baby being revealed for 2010 sporting CO2 emissions of 98g/km – which makes a change from the ubiquitous 99g/km figure.

The new Corsa ecoFlex manages to trim the CO2 emissions from 105g/km on the previous Corsa ecoFLEX model to 98g/km – and therefore a freebie VED – with even the 5 door version sneaking below the 100g/km threshold. And as people are willing to by a car based simply on the minimal annual saving dropping the Corsa a group has achieved it’s a sensible move by Vauxhall.

The good news is that the performance of the ecoFLEX improves over the old model – boasting as it does 21% more power from its 1.3 litre CDTi turbodiesel, up from 74bhp to 93bhp – as does economy (76.3mpg). Big on the list of pluses for us is the reduction in particulate emissions thanks to teh standard fitting of a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Even with the improvement in power and horses the Corsa isn’t going to get you too excited with a 0-60mph of 12.3 seconds and a top speed of 112mph. But the extra 10% torque the changes made to the Corsa have yielded will probably make it fel much nippier around town than the figures suggest.

Vauxhall hasn’t got round to releasing prices on the Corsa ecoFlex yet, but they’ll have too soon. The car is due on sale in January 2010.
