Vauxhall Zafira Tourer Concept
It may be a bit strong to say that the Vauxhall Zafira Tourer Concept has been revealed. This isn’t a heap of detail and a gallery full of photos of the Zafira Tourer. It’s one fuzzy image.
We’ve grabbed the salient part of an image released this morning by Opel, which shows a Zafira Tourer hologram hovering over an iPad held by designer Mark Adams. Yet another take on the tease format.
But what is it, this Vauxhall / Opel Zafira Tourer? Is it the new Zafira – the new Zafira we published a sketch of back in 2009 – or another model altogether? Good question.
We wonder if Opel/Vauxhall has tagged this new Zafira with the ‘Tourer’ tag to differentiate it from the current Zafira. Are they planning the Zafira Tourer as a rival to the S-Max and planning a titivate of the existing Vauxhall Zafira as a budget model? We’ll find out at Geneva – if not before.
Anyway, speculation apart, the new Zafira is what we expected – the nose of the Ampera and the sideblades from the Astra and Insignia. Opel are saying that the new Zafira is a ‘Lounge on wheels’, which doesn’t auger too well for its dynamics.
Under the skin the new Zafira is basically the Chevrolet Orlando, but pushed upmarket with higher quality materials, more standard kit, higher-end options and a great big panoramic glass roof.
More at – or closer to – Geneva.
