Vauxhall Zafira Tourer gets new, frugal 1.6 CDTi Diesel

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

The Vauxhall Zafira Tourer is the first Vauxhall to get the new 1.6 CDTi Diesel engine offering 68.9mpg. Debuts at Geneva 2013.

Now we get news that Vauxhall are also giving the Zafira the new 1.6 CDTI diesel with stop start – the cleanest Vauxhall diesel ever.

The new Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 CDTi comes with 134bhp and 236lb/ft of torque – enough for a 0-62mph of 10.4 seconds – and offers 68.9mpg and a cleaner exhaust than any other Vauxhall before.

That cleaner exhaust is thanks to Blueinjection selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, which injects AdBlue liquid in to the exhaust gases to get rid of more of the nasties that would otherwise come out of the exhaust pipe. That means that diesel engines are finally moving towards being as clean as petrol engines, and the new 1.6 CDTi engine – which also comes with stop-start – is Euro 6 compliant.

The 1.6 CDTi has emissions of 109g/km but, oddly, Vauxhall has chosen not to tell us how much cleaner the new engine is on stuff that really matters – like NOx and particulates.

The Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 CDTi debuts at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
