Volkswagen Cross Coupe

Wed, 30 Nov 2011

Volkswagen unveiled its SUV concept, the Cross Coupe, at the 42nd Tokyo motor show today. The ‘SUV of the future', is an all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid that hints at the future aesthetic of such a model from the brand.

Dimensionally the Cross Coupe slots between the Golf hatchback and the current Tiguan baby SUV, with the CC's short overhangs contributing to its short length and overall sporting dynamic. Despite the car's sporting demeanor, the CC boasts a healthy ground clearance and impressive approach angles for capable off-roading.

Designed by Mark Lichter under the direction of Volkswagen Brand Design Chief Klaus Bischoff, the SUV features the familiar horizontal lines of a traditional Volkswagen DRG while displaying all-new light graphics and grille treatment. The rear is dominated by steeply sloping angles and new distinctive light clusters, which are combined with chunky bumpers all around to give the car an element of aggresion and purpose.
