The Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan Concept (pictured) previews the 2014 Golf Plus

VW are calling the Golf Sportsvan a concept, but it’s pretty much what we’ll see in the new VW Golf Plus when it arrives in mid-2014. Just like the other new Golfs, the Sportsvan uses the new MQB platform but grows in size. It’s 134mm longer than the Golf Plus and 83mm longer than the new Golf and has a wheelbase longer by 43mm to offer more space inside. It’s also 126mm taller and 80mm wider.

The interior space is flexible too, with the booit swallowing 498 litre of stuff with the back seats in place, you can slide the back seats forward to create an extra 87 litres and if you fold the 60:40 split seats down you’ll yield a van-like space of 1,512 litres.

If that’s still not enough – and you’ve been out buying skirting boards or lengths of copper pipe – then the front passengers et folds down too to give you a load length of 2,484mm.

Engines on offer in the new Golf Plus when it arrives will include four turbocharged 1.4-litre petrols – 85, 110, 125 and 150 PS versions - and three turbodiesels – 2.0 litre 150 PS, 1.6 litre 90 pS and a 1.6 litre 110 PS for the Sportsvan Bluemotion.

Despite calling this a Sportsvan Concept, Sportsvan is not a name VW will be using in the UK. We’re not even sure they’re going to use Golf Plus, but whatever the Sportsvan Concept ends up being called in the UK, it will arrive sometime in the middle of 2014.
