Volvo S60 (2010) – first official photos

The first official picture of the 2010 Volvo S60

It’s been almost a year since we first reported on the Volvo S60. Volvo had released some teaser images of the S60 and we speculated – unkindly, as it turns out – that the teaser images would look nothing like the concept. But we were wrong. When Volvo released the pictures of the S60 Concept it looked great – much more dynamic and fluid than just about any Volvo before.

Now, eleven months after sending us the pictures of the S60 Concept, Volvo has issued a couple of official images of the production S60. And frankly, it doesn’t really seem to be worth the effort. They look identical to the concept pictures. Even the colour’s the same. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not moaning that Volvo is producing a car that looks great – far from it – but it does seem a bit like they’ve sat around for a year and done nothing, just churned out a variation on the original concept images.

Volvo tell us that the S60 will debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. So another four months. I know they’ve been slightly tied up with selling themselves to the Chinese, but this does seem an interminable time from tease to release. Almost as bad as the Aston Martin Rapide. By the time the S60 gets here it’ll feel like an old model.

So what do we know about the S60, apart from the fact that it’s a good looking Volvo? Quite honestly not a lot, and Volvo aren’t being wonderfully forthcoming. “The all-new Volvo S60 is sculpted to move you. It looks and drives like no other Volvo before and the car’s technology will help you to be safer and more confident behind the wheel”, say Volvo. They also say “…customers in this segment want emotional appeal, sporty design and dynamic driving properties. The S60 has it all. We are convinced that it will be one of the strongest contenders around.”

Well, that’s told you all you need to know.
