Watch the 'Mad Max' video game trailer

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

“Mad Max: Fury Road” comes out in 2015 with Tom Hardy (Bane, "The Dark Knight Rises") playing Max Rockatansky in the wasteland that used to be the Australian outback. Lucky for us, that means a demolition-soaked, open-world, off-road-style car game is on the way, too.

We checked out the trailer on Friday for the "Mad Max" video game, which has been delayed until 2015, and found that it hits all the right buttons. We have the Magnum Opus, his car, which looks like a cross between a Rally Fighter and the old Interceptor (Ford Falcon XB). It can be customized with weapons and armor, and hopefully a good suspension setup to handle the rough terrain.

Tire spikes will keep marauders away and a car-mounted harpoon can pull off tires and remove doors and drivers. Players can also choose street tires for speed on tarmac, or knobby tires for maneuvering off road. A man named Chumbucket will be your mechanic, helping you build the ultimate wasteland vehicle. Max can also get out the car and use his trusty shotgun to deal with enemies, but we're glad this game seems to take a keener focus on the cars.

To us, it looks like a cross between "Grand Theft Auto," "Burnout" and "Destruction Derby," which are all good things. The game comes out next year for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.
