Who's Where: Wolfgang Egger to head Audi Group Design

Fri, 16 Feb 2007

Following fast on the heels of the appointment of Walter de'Silva as Volkswagen Group Head of Design earlier this month, is the appointment of Wolfgang Egger to head of Audi Group Design. Egger will begin his new position effective from 1 May, 2007. Stefan Sielaff remains head of the Audi brand design department.

Previously, Audi Group has included Lamborghini and Seat, but Car Design News understands this is now being reconsidered following the appointment of Martin Winterkorn as Volkswagen Group and brand CEO. An announcement is expected soon as to what Audi Group will constitute. The roles of Egger relative to de'Silva and Sielaff will then be clearer.

Egger's position was previously held by de'Silva, so Egger follows in his footsteps at Audi as he did indirectly at Alfa Romeo where he became head of Design in 2002. de'Silva had held that position until 2001 and Andreas Zapatinas had been appointed for the intervening period.

Egger also worked with de'Silva briefly at the Volkswagen Group's Spanish brand Seat, a position de'Silva had left for Alfa Romeo in 1999. Egger then returned to Italy in 2001 as head of Design at Lancia, prior to his move back to Alfa Romeo.

Announcement of Egger's departure has surprised Alfa Romeo colleagues. After having recently overseen the acclaimed 8C Competizione, which won the Car Design Of The Year 2006, he will be missed by a company that he started his career with in 1989.
