Who got a MINI for Christmas, then?

The MINI 'Present' Box

It’s a familiar sight at this time of the year. Rubbish bags piled up at the side of the road (look out – they’ll fine you) surrounded by packaging from Christmas gifts. And most of us don’t give a second glance. But thanks to the efforts of a Dutch Ad Agency passers-by in Holland have been seeing something quite unusual. A MINI Gift box.

Designed to look as if it’s a discarded box from a MINI for Christmas, the ad campaign has caused a stir in Holland where the boxes have been filmed at the side of roads surrounded by other Christmas detritus. The boxes come complete with a price sticker of €99, indicating the MINI as an affordable gift (monthly lease rates – seems awfully low).

MINI has produced some good campaigns recently (and some not so good – remember the MINI Twins teaser for the MINI Roadster and MINI Coupe?) and we’d have thought that this campaign would have worked even better in the UK with out constant battles with local councils to collect rubbish. Particularly at this time of year when logic should dictate extra collections, not fewer.

Raised a post Christmas smile, I have to say. And there’s even a video to go with it.
