New design boss for Land Rover

By Phil McNamara Motor Industry 14 August 2006 10:39 Gerry McGovern – the designer credited with the MG F and original Freelander – will become Land Rover's new design director on 1 January 2007. McGovern currently leads Land Rover's advanced design department, a think-tank examining the future look and concept of the firm's 4x4s. He has also worked for Ford's North American brand Lincoln, as well as helping to create some stunning cars at Rover Group.

Next Ford Mustang to follow Evos concept, ditch retro styling, report says

The Ford Mustang has been rolling with a retro-heavy styling theme since the fourth generation of the pony car appeared as a 1994 model. But the Wall Street Journal reports that the sixth-generation Mustang, due out in about two years, will break that mold. The newspaper, citing sources it did not name who know of Ford's plans, says that the new Mustang will look a lot like the Evos concept from last year's Frankfurt show.

These are the first images of the new Mazda3 sedan, set to make its public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. This is the first complete redesign of the Mazda3 (known as Mazda Axela in Japan) since its introduction five years ago. Utlizing design cues first seen in its larger sibling, the Mazda6, the dynamic redesign adds an air of masculinity to the small Mazda3, a car which, according to the Japanese company, has 'had every element developed for heightened exhilaration'.
