Toyota recalls the Lexus GX 460 SUV to upgrade stability software

Toyota on Monday said it is recalling about 9,400 copies of the 2010 Lexus GX 460 to update the stability-control software--just one week after Consumer Reports magazine warned that the vehicle was prone to oversteer in turns and urged its subscribers not to buy the vehicle. It's the latest in a series of gaffes that have damaged Toyota's reputation for high quality and led the automaker to recall millions of vehicles to fix problems such as sticking gas pedals. Concept Car of the Week: Ford Synergy 2010 (1996)

In the early 1990s, the US government instigated the Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles research program (PNGV). This brought Ford, GM and Chrysler together to collaborate in developing cars that could achieve up to 80mpg, and be ready to market by 2003. While working on the PNGV, in 1996 Ford introduced the Synergy 2010, featuring the firm's 'New Edge' design that debuted a year earlier with the GT90 concept.

A tribute to Jim Das

On May 15 GM Europe designer Jim Das passed away in a Wiesbaden hospital after a year-long battle with leukemia. Jim joined the Opel Design team in 1997 following the completion of his Masters degree at the Royal College of Art. In 1998-99 Jim had a stint in Italy at the Opel Advanced Studio and worked on a roadster study (currently on display at Opel Live in Ruesselsheim).
