McLaren has given the convertible MP4-12C – the McLaren 12C Spider – its first public outing at Pebble Beach. It’s a month since we had the reveal of the McLaren 12C Spider – the very appealing trick roof version of the MP4-12C – but we hadn’t actually seen it in the flesh. At least not until this weekend when McLaren gave the 12C Spider a public outing at Pebble Beach.

Now that the 2012 Scottsdale collector-car auctions in Arizona have come to a close, our friends at Hagerty Insurance have wrapped up all the numbers from the auctions in their latest edition of “Hagerty Classic Car TV.” In this episode, host Rob Sass, author Colin Comer and publisher Dave Kinney explore the 2012 sales figures and take a closer look at some of the more memorable vehicles, including a 1948 Tucker Torpedo and a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL alloy Gullwing. Before the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas became the capital of obnoxious extravagance, car manufacturers and suppliers saw it as an opportunity to exhibit their latest innovations, giving the public an exciting insight into the future of automobiles. This is when, in 1985, Buick unveiled the totally unexpected Wildcat concept, which broke radically with the brand's stodgy image. Proportionally, the weight is placed forward, with a thin and low tail.
