Local authorities cashing in with CCTV fines
Tue, 15 Apr 2014Councils are turning to CCTV cameras and spy cars to raise £312m in revenue, that’s according to Traffic Spies, a report published by civil liberties group, Big Brother Watch. Using a series of freedom of information requests, the group has discovered that many councils are continuing to use CCTV to hand out fines, despite the government’s Surveillance Camera Code of Practice, which highlights the need to use CCTV for traffic offences “sparingly”. Sadly, we won't get the steroidal hot hatch in the UK as it's not being built in right-hand drive.Why so little innovation? There's a natural lull in the model cycle after a ballistic 2007, and we'll have to wait until later in the year to see another new model, rumoured to be a concept car for a future model line.
Terry Karges to replace Buddy Pepp as executive director of the Petersen Museum
