W107 OR R107 Sun Visor Clips

Many or all W107 SL convertible owners have gone through numerous sun visor clips.  I understand this is a big issue for all W107's.  First, you cannot purchase a male visor clip from the dealer; Only the female clips are available for $76.00, each.  Any aftermarket visor clips are "acceptable," because there has been no other choice.  Either you purchase an aftermarket clip or purchase a complete visor from the dealer, which retails from $430.00-$760.00, each, depending on the year and model of your car.  Aftermarket parts are made very simply with weak, plastic materials; Hence, they are made incorrectly.  But, everyone is happy for the time-being, as they are saving a lot of money, since they are not purchasing the complete visors from the dealers.  So far, so good.

First of all, the male visor clips were made with a groove on the inside of the cylinder opening.  The rod has an "opening" which is made to lock-in with the groove on the inside of the clip's cylinder opening.  This was designed to keep your visor in one position at all times.  The aftermarket clips are not made this way.  They are only made with an opening, but no groove fitting inside.  Thus, when you use your convertible, and the warm weather heats the visors, the male clips loosen and cause the visor to fall down.  However, this is "O.K." for now, as it is better than buying the complete visor from the dealers.
