It is designed for studs, but you do not have to place a single stud in the track. The track stud pattern allows for a total of 144 studs which utilizes 48 double and 48 single backers. Why buy the 9968H Ripsaw and then acquire a stud template, marker, track cutting tool and perform the labor yourself.
