GM expands brake-override safety feature
Mon, 05 Apr 2010General Motors is significantly expanding the use of a brake-override safety feature in its cars through the end of 2012. GM announced on Monday that it will add the software, which it also calls “enhanced smart-pedal technology,” in all of its passenger cars with automatic transmissions and electronic throttle control. The change will reduce power to the engine when both the throttle and brakes are pressed at the same time.

In 1952, the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring teamed up with Alfa Romeo to create a series of special-bodied cars to trial new technologies as well as being easily adaptable for racing. Perhaps the most famous (and beautiful) was the 1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante (C52) which was based on the Alfa 1900, with both coupe and Spider convertible bodies produced.

Thu, 24 Sep 2009Jaguar Land Rover are to close one of their production facilities in the Midlands JLR unions have already brokered a deal to ensure no job losses in the short term, but JLR are committed to rationalising their manufacturing across just two plants in the UK, instead of the existing three. The decision will be made about which plant to close in the next eighteen months. The most likely scenario is that JLR will close Solihull – which currently produces Land Rovers and employs 5000 people – and concentrate Land Rover production at Halewood.
