They say perception of a brand is more important for sales than substance; and there’s some truth to that. So Jaguar, BMW and Mercedes-Benz should be suitably chuffed to be the only car brands to make it in to the Superbrands Top Ten list of consumer brands for 2012.

Thu, 14 Aug 2014The new Toyota FT-1 Concept (pictured) will debut at Pebble Beach At the Detroit Motor Show in January, the impressive Toyota FT-1 Concept was revealed, with the general concensus being that it pointed firmly at a future Toyota Supra. And that thought is reinforced with the arrival of a new FT-1 Concept, ahead of a debut at Pebble Beach – and a ‘virtual’ FT-1 Concept in the guise of the Toyota FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo Concept. The new FT-1 Concept comes complete with a new graphite paint job, but perhaps the more interesting aspect is that the interior now looks more upmarket and more appealing.
VW and Chinese ‘in talks to buy Vauxhall/Opel’ from GM

If it goes ahead and severs ties with GM Europe, the General would cede control of Vauxhall and Opel, the second biggest car brand in the UK.And in another extraordinary twist, CAR has confirmed that top-level talks have been taking place between Volkswagen and the German government, which is keen to avoid Opel falling into foreign hands. Chinese car makers are circling but Chancellor Angela Merkel, who has close connections to Volkswagen chief Martin Winterkorn, would prefer VW to step up to the plate as a potential buyer than a Chinese brand.
