MINI Countryman to be built in India

Wed, 17 Apr 2013

MINI sells worldwide – even in the US – and, despite claims it was a step too far for the brand, the MINI Countryman has been a big hit for MINI, offering as it does most of MINI’s charm but in a bigger, more family friendly package and with the option of All4 4WD for a degree of off-road ability (well, certainly the ability to treat boot sale car parks with disdain). Now, for the first time, BMW is to build the MINI outside Europe with a new MINi assembly facility coming on stream in Chennai, India, where BMW already makes 3 and 5 Series models as well as the X1 and X3. The plan is part of BMW’s plan of ‘Production follows the market’ where BMW aim to make their cars where they’re sold, so with the MINI brand showing strong growth in India since its launch it makes sense to build them there.

Thu, 17 May 2007

By Ben Whitworth Motor Industry 17 May 2007 09:38 Chrysler has been sold. In one of the biggest private equity deals seen in the automotive industry, Cerberus Capital Management has purchased 80.1% of Chrysler in a £3.76billion deal, leaving DaimlerChrysler with the remaining 19.9% stake in the loss-making company. The move marks the close of arguably the most high-profile transatlantic merger and shuts the door on Canadian car assembly giant Magna and billionaire Kirk Kerkorian, who last month offered £2.27billion for Chrysler.

Volkswagen Taigun concept

Tue, 23 Oct 2012

Volkswagen has unveiled its new Taigun concept car at the Sao Paolo motor show, previewing a future B-segment SUV. The Taigun continues VW's new SUV aesthetic, first shown on last year's Cross Coupe concept, with a similar, full-width grille and lamp and very strong horizontal feature lines. Unlike the crossover Cross Coupe however, the Taigun follows a more traditional, upright SUV format.
