We speculated that the 599XX would be in the mould of the FXX series – a track-only development car for uber-rich enthusiasts to drive on track and generate feedback for Ferrari. Thu, 19 Jan 2012In order to promote the launch of the Golf R in the US, Volkswagen has created a series of videos featuring fans of the iconic Euro hatch for a new iPad app. Here Chip Foose, founder of Foose Design and presenter of hit TV show, Overhaulin', tells the story of his first VW Golf, a 1985 GTI. But the highlight of the video is watching Foose produce a marker rendering of the MkII GTI in his own distinct style, usually associated with the hotrod scene.
VW Phaeton - the new one coming in 2015
Wed, 21 Sep 2011A brand new Volkswagen Phaeton Mk2 will be launched in 2015, based on a new architecture being masterminded by cousins Audi. Dubbed VW631, the new VW Phaeton will be based on MLM Evo (modular longitudinal matrix) which makes provision for a plug-in hybrid option, an aluminium-intensive body structure and a much more advanced and less nose-heavy dynamic layout. Although VW chairman Martin Winterkorn has in the past black-flagged the Avantissimo (A8-based) and the Passat Variant Plus (A6-derived), there is still a lot to be said for a second more practical bodystyle in addition to the four-door notch which is almost compulsory in this segment.
