UNIVERSAL FLYWHEEL ALTERNATOR TACHOMETER INTERFACE
DSL-2E
from Dakota Digital
Have you swapped a diesel engine into your car or truck and no longer have a tachometer signal? Use this unit to restore your tach signal when you do not have a signal off the alternator to use. The DLS-2 comes with it's OWN magnetic pickup that you can install near your flywheel. By counting the teeth in the flywheel, the DSL-2 produces a tach signal which can then be calibrated to run your stock or aftermarket tach!
Here is Dakota Digital's description of this item: The DSL-2E consists of a DSL-1E Tachometer
Interface unit and an inductive, gear-tooth sensor. This kit will
convert the signal from the supplied flywheel-gear tooth sensor for use
with a gas-tachometer. Simply enter the number of teeth on your flywheel
and choose desired cylinder-count output to match the tachometer of
your choice. The sensor should be mounted so the flywheel teeth pass by
the end of the sensor.
DSL-1E: 4" x 2" x 1" and is designed to be mounted inside the vehicle.
Sensor: 2" Long, 3/4"-16 Threads
Product not compatible with '86-91 VW Vanagon's and other similar models.

FAQ - Will It Work on... Unfortunately we cannot test every possible combination, but
here is what you need to find out to see if this item will work for your
application. DSL-1 vs DSL-2 Diesel Applications: The DSL-1 diesel tach adapter is specifically for engines
that have a “W” terminal on the alternator (usually a Bosch alternator). Since
we don’t have an exhaustive list of vehicles this applies to, you will have to
find out about your car to know if it will work or not. Again, this is only for
analog tachometers. The DSL-2 is the DSL-1 box with the addition of a 2-wire
magnetic sensor that can read the teeth on the flywheel, thus generating a
tachometer signal. This can be used on any application, including diesel
engines, where you need to generate a tach signal. This output is the same, it
only works on analog tachometers. For dual ECU engine swaps for cars with CAN BUS gauges
(350z, E46, IS300 etc). – In some cases, the easiest way to solve CAN BUS
gauges not working is to keep the original engine ECU as WELL as the new engine
ECU. The new engine ECU runs the engine, but some signals are fed to the
original ECU which can send the information via CAN BUS to the stock gauges (in
particular the tachometer signal). This is done by using an SGI-5 “speed”
adapter (not an SGI-8 or DSL-1) to read the crank sensor speed (magnetic or
hall effect) and then convert that signal to one that the original ECU
understands. This requires advanced wiring and unfortunately we do not provide
that service, but you can speak to the guys at Tweak’d Performance about wiring
harnesses for engine swaps.
This listing is for the DSL-2 only, but you can purchase the SGI-5, SGI-8 or DSL-1 separately in our store if you need those instead.

As far back as the 1960s, Luigi Colani was preaching about organic design, and the 'biodynamic' forms that eventually became his signature. However, organic design didn't gain widespread popularity among car designers until the late 1980s and early '90s, and no car paid a greater tribute to nature and its forms than the Ghia Focus. Designed entirely by Taru Lahti only two years after graduating, the concept was a real breakthrough for the usually conservative American brand.

The acceptance letters went out this week for the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, the vintage racing weekend formerly known as the Monterey Historics, and it looks as if you'll get your money's worth out of this year's event. While previous years usually featured about 400 or so cars, the 2010 running of the renamed Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, managed now by SCRAMP, will feature 520 vintage entries. Leading the pack is what promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime collection of 35 cars either designed, built or raced by the great Dan Gurney, this year's honoree.
