CAR interviews Dany Bahar on the crisis at Lotus (2012)

CAR yesterday sat down with Dany Bahar, the chief executive officer of Lotus Cars, to discuss the company's financial situation. He talked about the recent takeover of parent company Proton by DRB-Hicom and what it means for Lotus, the financial performance of Hethel and the latest on plans to launch the new Esprit supercar and all the other new Lotuses in the pipeline. It's really an unfair fight: The Cadillac Escalade sports a 6.2-liter V8 which in stock form makes about 400 hp. But Hennessey, not looking for a beatdown, drops a twin-turbocharged 427 cubic-inch LSX engine with high-flow cylinder heads, intake and exhaust upgrades, a performance camshaft and a laundry list of other parts to bring the truck's output to 1,000 hp.

The EX30d gets the same diesel engine as the FX30d, namely a 3.0 litre V6 with graphite iron block (all the better for saving weight and adding smoothness) delivering 235bhp which – in the smaller EX30d – is sufficient to get to 60mph in 7.7 seconds and return 33.2mpg.
