Germany's Transport Minister and VW's Development Director with the VW Golf Blue-e-Motion In a new take on the BlueMotion moniker Volkswagen has revealed the VW Golf Blue-e-Motion which is – you’ll never guess – an electric Golf. The Golf Blue-e-Motion is a foretaste of VW’s aims to launch the electric Golf on an unsuspecting public in 2013 and was revealed by German Chancellor Angela Merkel (who managed not to get herself in the photo-op above).

How safe are new minicars?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently tested a total of 11 minicars in its relatively new small-overlap crash test, and the Chevrolet Spark was the only one to earn an Acceptable rating. The small-overlap crash test was instituted in 2012 with the goal of better replicating real-life car crashes, most of which don't follow the pattern of traditional government crash tests. Instead of a car hitting a stationary object with 100 percent of its front making contact, the small-overlap test examines how a car behaves in a frontal impact at 40 mph where only a quarter of the car's front hits an object.

Fiat 500 wins EuroCarBody 2007 award

The new FIAT 500 has won the EuroCarBody 2007 award, the world's most prestigious prize for car bodies. The ninth edition of the Forum organised by Automotive Circle International was held in Bad Nauheim/Frankfurt from 16 to 18 October, attended by 600 experts in the development of the design, materials, processes and manufacture of car bodies. The EuroCarBody 2007 award highlights the mixture of "creativity and skill" that is necessary to develop an innovative, winning bodyshell.
