But the LF-CC was actually a two-door coupe, not a four door saloon, so it seemed highly likely there was an IS Coupe in the works that would arrive sooner rather than later. Ford in Brazil has been building a small SUV based on the Fiesta for almost a decade, and the new Ford EcoSport is a new version based on the latest Fiesta platform and already on sale in South America and India. Now Ford has confirmed – to no one’s great surprise – that they will be launching the EcoSport in the UK and Europe in the next eighteen months.

The Audi A1 will be positioned slap bang against BMW’s burgeoning Mini family when UK sales begin in autumn 2010, priced from around £11,000. The new A1 three-door hatch will be unveiled first at the 2010 Geneva motor show, with continental sales kicking off next summer.
