This is the custom air cleaner assembly designed by Downey Off Road Mfg. for TBI conversions onto Toyota Landcruisers.  The top lid is cast aluminum, has the exact Landcruiser logo, then has cast-in letters that say "throttle Body Injection".  The bottom lid has the standard 5 1/8" opening for the GM throttle body and/or standard 4 barrel carburetor.  The bottom lid round hole is slightly off-set to one side to keep the air cleaner assembly away from the Landcruiser's master cylinder (can be shifted towards the valve cover).  This is a universal design that could be used on many different vehicles with throttle body or carburetor.  The filter element is a K&N type pre-oiled filter element, washable, 9" diameter by 2" tall.  This unit includes the top lid, bottom lid, filter element, and both mounting studs and wing nuts.

NOTE: The foundry who builds these castings for us is closing operation, I doubt we will find another foundry willing to build our lower quantities, consequently these are probably the last 5 of this air cleaner that will ever be available.

Essay: Variable Degrees of Translucency

Mon, 12 Nov 2007

Car door panels and fenders are generally made of steel, sometimes of aluminum or plastic composites, and you can't see through them. Car windows, on the other hand, are made of a transparent sandwich of glass and plastic - and you can see through them. But in the future there will be variable degrees of transparency: translucent elements where once there were none, traditional window areas that will have opaque elements and graduated progressions from opaque to see-through.

Who's Where: Jason Castriota opens own design consultancy

Tue, 23 Mar 2010

Former Bertone and Pininfarina designer, Jason Castriota, has opened his own design consultancy based in New York and Turin. CDN recently caught up with Castriota - who is currently in New York - and discovered he's already working on a series of projects, despite having not yet officially launched the company. Castriota told us that it had always been his "dream to have my own consultancy in New York", yet what's clearly pleasing him most is the volume of work he's already accrued, without officially launching the firm.
