Here is the Process for Installing an Overdrive in Your Model A!

THIS PROGRAM SHOWS YOU HOW TO REMOVE THE DRIVE TRAIN AND REAR END, INSTALL AN OVERDRIVE IN THE DRIVE TRAIN, AND REINSTALL THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY IN YOUR CAR.

Some of the content of this 31-minute video program:

  • Disconnecting shocks, brake rods, spring U-bolts and clam shell.
  • Two different techniques for removing the drive shaft from the differential (banjo).
  • How a special fixture can make the job of supporting the drive train easier.
  • Removing pinion gear and resetting the pre-load.
  • Reassembly with overdrive components.
  • Safety wire the drive shaft to the differential (banjo).
  • Reinstalling the drive train and mating it to the transmission.
  • Reattach brake rods, rear spring U-bolts, and shocks.

There are three primary manufacturers of overdrive units for the Model A Ford...Volvo, Borg Warner and Mitchell Manufacturing's gear splitter. This video shows installation of a Mitchell unit, but the process will be the same for any of the models. Some require electrical connections while the Mitchell only requires a mechanical shifter. You will need to follow the manufacturer's instructions. This video should give you help in understanding how to remove and reinstall the drive train safely.

Retailers urged to cut fuel prices

Tue, 17 Sep 2013

FUEL RETAILERS have been urged to "immediately" ease pressure at the pumps by passing on a drop in wholesale prices to motorists. The RAC said a litre of unleaded petrol sold wholesale for 6p less since the end of August, while diesel was down by 2p a litre, giving petrol stations the power to lower prices on the forecourt. The car services company explained lower prices were due to a drop in oil prices since Syria agreed to sign an international treaty banning chemical weapons and the pound reaching a seven-month high against the dollar.

Radical new group-based car insurance scheme

Wed, 02 Jul 2014

REX Innovation and car insurance aren’t entirely strange bedfellows. After all, the concept of ‘black box’ insurance that uses a device to monitor you as you drive has taken off so fast it could well become mandatory in the future. But it’s still unusual to come across something truly revolutionary.

Volkswagen e-Golf goes on sale – price from £30,845

Tue, 11 Mar 2014

The Volkswagen e-Golf (pictured) is now on sale in the UK The Nissan LEAF has almost had the market place for proper family EVs to itself until recently, but the arrival of the impressive BMW i3 -especially when specced with a range extending motor – threatens to make a dent in LEAF sales, and another dent could come courtesy of the new Volkswagen e-Golf, which goes on sale today in the UK priced from £30,845 (£25,845 after taxpayer bribe). In most of the ways that matters, the e-Golf is a regular Golf MK 7, but lurking under the familiar exterior lies a thumping great bank of batteries weighing 318kg (about the same as a car full of passengers) and an electric motor driving the front wheels and good for 113bhp. Range for the e-Golf is up to 118 miles from a full charge, a charge that will take 13 hours from a regular 3-pin socket, a more acceptable 8 hours if you use the optional 3.6 kW wallbox you can spec (for free from British Gas) and a quick charge of up to 80 per cent in 35 minutes.
