This is an original, early MERCEDES 230 SL distributor that has been refurbished with many new parts.
Brand:Bosch Manufacturer Part Number:VJUR6 BR 49T

Sold my early 1964 Mercedes 230SL (delivered new in June, 1964) this summer after 20+ years of ownership (I was the 3rd owner) and have a few remaining items and spares to dispose of so keep checking back as I add new items as I clean out my basement.

Early Mercedes 230SL Distributor – very rare and complete - almost impossible to find. These do not come along every day and while you may not need it now this is a great hedge for future problems.  Also a great investment as these will only become more expensive as time passes.

P/N  VJUR6 BR 49T

This distributor was removed from my car and was replaced with an electronic distributor as this car was a summer driver. The original distributor was then disassembled, cleaned, refurbished with many new parts including new points, rotor, cap and a NEW vacuum cell and then put into clean, dry storage in my basement. Perfect for the owner who wants to ensure the originality of their early 230.SL as finding an early Vacuum Advance distributor is now almost impossible.

Early 230SL's used a Vacuum Advance distributor, whilst later 230SL used a Vacuum Retard distributor. If the incorrect distributor is used with the wrong throttle body (i.e. vacuum advance and retard are mixed) then you lose power, gas responsiveness, and the car does not sound right.

With a wrong match (vacuum retard distributor with vacuum advance throttle body) the distributor was adjusted too advanced, and during vacuum retard phase (initial run of gas pedal) this is corrected, but at the end of vacuum retard phase (with more gas pedal) the engine shows knock problems.

By Tim Pollard Motor Industry 19 July 2007 05:34 The last Vanquish rolled off the line at Aston Martin's historic Newport Pagnell factory today. It brings to an end a long and distinguished history of car and carriage making at Newport Pagnell - stretching all the way back to the 1820s.

New Ford Fiesta ST starts production ahead of first deliveries in March

Fri, 08 Feb 2013

Ford has started production of the new Fiesta ST at its plant in Cologne ahead of first customer cars arriving in Ford’s UK showrooms in March. By the time the Fiesta ST arrived at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show it had turned in to a full production model – with little change from the concept – and we finally got UK prices for the Fiesta ST last month, with the promise that Ford would be getting the first STs to customers in March. That plan looks like it’s on track as Ford announce the Fiesta ST has now started to roll off the production line in Cologne (and even the first STs coming off the line get Ford’s orange statement paint job).

Festival of the Unexceptional: the bad cars we love

Mon, 28 Apr 2014

Ever been to a classic car show and noticed how many old MGBs and sports cars of yesteryear have turned up, driven by their proud owners, but wondered what happened to all the more mainstream stuff? There are twice as many Ferrari 308 GTBs on the roads in the UK than Austin Allegros, because the everyday cars of the past fail MOTs, get chucked away and replaced with shiny new hatchbacks. Fortunately, there is a select group of people in the UK who care for the mundane stuff of yesterday and, because of this, a new event for “unexceptional” cars will be taking place this summer.
