It remains the only mainstream manufacturer persisting with this type of motor and has built 1.97 million of them since 1967. Rotary engines came to prominence in the 1950s as manufacturers experimented with turbine engines, but most admitted defeat in the face of technical difficulties and the inherent thirst of rotary units.

The rather expensive Porsche Lithium Ion Battery Car batteries have been roughly the same shape and size – and utilised basically the same lead-acid technology – for years. They’ve got better, as you no longer need to top them up with distilled water at regular intervals (I’m showing my age now), and they are less prone to going flat. But that probably has more to do with alternators replacing dynamos than the batteries themselves.

London Design Museum showcases most iconic designs and inventions

The London Design Museum has added 13 new exhibits to its collection. The additions come ahead of the Museum's relocation from its current location in the shadows of Tower Bridge to the former Commonwealth Institute across town in Kensington. The new acquisitions are taken from a variety of backgrounds; from the iconic Tomohiro Nishikado-designed Space Invaders game through the Kalashnikov AK-47 and the Amazon Kindle.
