Concept Car of the Week: Chrysler Atlantic (1995)
Fri, 16 May 2014The Atlantic concept was arguably one of the first retro-remakes, starting a trend soon followed by cars like the Alfa Romeo Nuvola and the Renault Fiftie. The story began at the 1994 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where Chrysler president Bob Lutz and Chrysler design chief Tom Gale served together as judges. Presented on the lawn around the clubhouse were a variety of old and new concept cars, contrasting with the classic cars to be judged.
Autoweek archives: BMW introduces the revvy 325is
Mon, 19 Dec 2011This selection from the Autoweek archives comes from longtime contributor Phil Berg back in September 1987. Berg examines the BMW 325is, with its new, free-revving, 2.5-liter inline six-cylinder, making BMW’s small sedan an even more desirable ride. Compared with the more expensive Porsche 944 and Acura Legend, the BMW gets Berg’s nod of approval.
First Jaguar F-Type customer cars leave Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich
Fri, 10 May 2013The first proper sports car from Jaguar since the E-Type ended production almost 40 years ago (and it could be argued the later V12 E-Types were more a GT than a proper sports car), the F-Type is a hook to hang Jaguar’s future intent on – and it seems to be making a pretty good fist of it. It may not be cheap (you’ll pay £80k for a V8 F-Type) and it may be heavier than its lightweight aluminium underpinnings promise, but it looks great, goes very well and seems to have proper Jaguar ‘Soul’. A winning combination.
