A VINTAGE 1950s Volkswagen Beetle owned by a pensioner will go under the hammer at an auction later this month. The classic car, which has picked up a number of awards, is expected to fetch around £9,000 when it appears alongside a selection of rare art and antiques in the McTear's Collectables sale in Glasgow on September 29. The 1953 Beetle, which is a 1200 Deluxe model, has been in the hands of 72-year-old Willie Black since 1966, the same year that VW gave it the Best Beetle in Britain accolade.

The Alpina B4 BiTurbo (pictured) debuts at Goodwood 2014 We’ve already had the arrival of the BMW 4-Series Coupe and Convertible – the replacement for the old 3-Series Coupe and Convertible – so logically the next step is an Alpina version. And here it is. The Alpina B4 Biturbo is based on the latest 4-Series and gets the N55 BMW straight six from the 435i but tweaked and fettled by Alpina to deliver 404bhp and 442lb/ft of torque.

Engineers 'most likely' to crash

BUILDERS and bakers are among the best drivers while engineers and estate agents are among the worst, according to a survey. Based on accident figures per profession, the survey showed that persons classing themselves as 'administrators' were the safest drivers, followed by painters and farmers. Builders were the sixth-safest on the list compiled by insurance company 1st Central, with bakers eighth.
