This is a brand new Voltage Regulator that fits the 2005 VW Passat. VW offers two different alternator models for 2005. Take a look at your voltage regulator to confirm match. I bought this one for my Passat not realizing that my car needed the other version, which looks much different. Obviously, they won't take back electrical parts. So, my mistake is your opportunity to save $$. Selling at about 50% of what I purchased this for. You can tell by looking at yours and the picture here if this is the one you need.
