Found this at a marine flea market. Guy told me it had never been installed. I intended to put this on my boat but decided instead that I could do without another through-hull.

This is the famous rubber-plug all-bronze seacock that Lin and Larry Pardey used for both of their boats, Seraffyn and Talesin. These are reported to work for decades with very little maintenance. Seraffyn's are over 50 years old and have been in continuous use the whole time.

They really, really don't make them like this anymore.

Groco SV-1500 bronze seacock.
A new Groco BV-1500 will run you $230 and will last 10 years probably, just for comparison.

Nissan gets a new 'Leaf' on life

Thu, 12 Sep 2013

On Thursday, Nissan announced that its all-electric Leaf will be added to its Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles program. Starting in September, Nissan will back all used Leaf vehicles to provide years of performance and quality at a competitive value. The program will not only provide buyers with eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty coverage, but also with five-year/60,000-mile coverage for battery-capacity loss that falls below nine bars, which is imperative when you're relying solely on electricity to power your vehicle.

Nissan Leaf with advanced-driver assist to begin public road tests in Japan

Thu, 26 Sep 2013

Nissan is about to begin testing advanced driver-assist systems in the real world, and a new Nissan Leaf is serving as the test bed for these technologies. This is all a part of Nissan's development of Autonomous Drive, a goal to achieve virtually zero fatalities in accidents involving its vehicles by the year 2020. Autonomous Drive can be said to be a further development of Nissan's Safety Shield, a system that has a 360-degree view around the vehicle that scans for risks and provides warnings to the driver, intervening automatically if necessary.

Worrying insurance fraud trends revealed

Fri, 16 May 2014

AS MANY as two million motorists could be jeopardising their insurance by listing themselves as the main driver on a car that someone else covers more mileage in. The process, known as ‘fronting’, secures a cheaper insurance quote for the real main driver, who in many cases is young or has less no-claims discount, but it is illegal and could completely invalidate the policy and leave the drivers vulnerable to prosecution. Research from Privilege car insurance has revealed not only that the two million drivers could be risking more than they imagine, but also that around one million motorists are named as the main driver on insurance policies for cars they have never even driven at all.
