But get up close and you’ll find it’s one hell of a smart hatchet job. We admire the packaging. If you’ve ever had a soft-top you’ll know that most have very wide fabric C-pillars that impede vision and coupled with integrated rear glass windows can be tricky to fold away.

After individual deliberation by our panel of renowned senior designers, students being tutored at colleges in a diverse range of countries including Israel, the Czech Republic, Australia, Taiwan, Canada and China, as well as in the established centres of Europe, the USA and Japan/Korea, have made the 68-strong shortlist of potential winners. Until the recent economic mire hit, the sales of Bentleys were at a previously unimagined level. In fact it got to the point where Bentleys no longer seemed ‘Special’, so ubiquitous had the sight of a Bentley Continental become on our roads.
