Volkswagen Passat (2011): the American one

Volkswagen has unveiled the US version of the Passat at the 2011 Detroit auto show. VW’s European customers won’t be able to buy it, but will be interested in the price: despite being longer and wider than the car offered in Europe it will start from just £13,000 before taxes for a 168bhp five-cylinder petrol. Mazda reveals date for all-new MX-5

Mazda has confirmed that the all-new fourth generation Mazda MX-5 (ND) will be unveiled in September 2014. The new MX-5 will be shown simultaneously at events in the USA, Japan and Barcelona in Spain. 2014 also marks the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the first MX-5 – also know as the Eunos Roadster and Mazda Miata – in 1989.

Porsche to build 918 Spyder

Porsche today announced that it will build the 918 Spyder, a road legal version of the 718bhp hybrid sports car that made its debut at the Geneva motor show last year. The company says the hybrid sports car will be limited to just 918 examples and be offered in left-hand drive only in order to ensure exclusivity of the new model. Based on a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic monocoque, the 918 Spyder's design DNA is derived from the Carrera GT and Porsche 917 race car as well as the RS Spyder.
