Last month I returned from my second consecutive Nurburgring 24hr race, so I was excited to be getting my first taste of Le Mans last weekend. Two very similar concepts, yet the endurance races at the Ring and Le Mans differ hugely, and both excite for very different reasons. I just hope they stay that way. Here are some of my favourite pictures from the weekend: 1.

Online driving licence to reduce insurance costs

First the tax disc, now your driving licence, as government plans to put driving records online are set to make the paper counterpart licence obsolete – reducing your car insurance premium in the process. By creating an online record that insurance companies can easily check, ministers and the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Agency (DVLA) expect insurance costs to fall, as insurers will be able to exactly analyse risk rather than hedging their bets. The wheels of change are continuing to turn within the automotive design industry, with yet another new appointment being made at the director level. According to industry insiders, Laurens van den Acker is set become the new Design Director at Renault when Patrick le Quément retires later this year. One of the most pre-eminent car designers in the world, Patrick le Quément began his design career at Simca, worked at Ford for 17 years and did a brief stint at Volkswagen before taking the top design job at Renault.
