I Think this Heavy 12 in astrolabe is self explanatory for those that are interested.

The sextant is 17 in tall but is actually a 10in, Sextants are measured by width of Plates area, not by width or height of actual Astrolabe. At the bottom we list all measurments

The last 2 pictures show this item has a few pits ( small spots that did not cast) in the casting close to the center, it does not weaken the item from working, also the front plate is slightly off center.  The price is reduced $75 and there is No Return Offered on this one item.

Hanging almost 11 lbs astrolabe . This item is a NEW Heavy Brass Reproduction, ASTROLABE. This comes with information on back, inside, on front, plus 5 inner plates.

Each plate is blank on the back. The center pin is completely removable, all 5 plates are blank on the back. The pictures show information on the front bottom, front center with plates removed, on the back, plus the front cover and plates.

Reproductions are items that someone makes with very few tools, coyping an antique as closely as possible with materials they have available, The makers try to use exact same materials ( like brass is used on most of what we sell ) as the antique they copy.

If we got a perfect item from our reproduction maker, we would know we have a problem as no one copies items with hand tools perfect. Our customers want an item as close as possible to the antique they would like to have but can not find one or can not afford the price. Anyone can go buy a New Perfect Item, all they need is money, but reproductions are made in very small quantities so they are harder to find.

Are there old reproductions, Yes but we, deal with New Only 

If you see Working in the title of our listings, this means we have been told they are fully functional.

MOST IMPORTANT:  Fully functional does not mean the maker, or us guarantee it is perfect, ready to use. It means it is complete, and can be given final adjustments, calibrated and used. The accuracy depends on the person making the final adjustments, doing the calibration and the user. Example: I have buyers that have never picked up a sextant, that buy one, learn how to calibrate it and get angles that let them know where they are in a couple days. I also had a customer tell me they pointed it toward the moon but there was nothing to show them where they were. Sextants do one thing. Measure an angle from something to something far away. Yes we have customers that can take any sextant we sell and find where they are. New Expensive Machine Made sextants will be more accurate, but that is not what our customers are interested in, they want to learn the old method, for practice and or for backup method.
