UK Government to add electric cars to its fleet – but don’t think the PM will be driving a Tesla Model S

So the Lib Dem bit of the coalition has decided that the Government should lead by example and have declared that the Government Car Service – which supplies cars for ministers and ‘government’ use – will start to acquire electric cars from this Autumn and, as part of the £5 million scheme, the wider public sector will be involved with council, police and NHS fleets looking seriously at EVs. But this scheme is aimed at the sorts of government cars that do the daily grind; ferrying junior ministers, getting staff to meetings and making deliveries in commercial vehicles.

Wheels and More offers an extra 45 hp for the Ferrari F12

German tuner Wheels and More has come up with a tuning package for the new Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. It squeezes out 45 more hp for a total of 785 Italo-German ponies. In addition to software tuning used to wring out more power, Wheels and More adds a hand-made exhaust system with valves that can be opened and closed with the push of a button.

But those car makers who chose to ignore the brickbats directed at big SUVs have proved that there is big demand for luxury monsters (the Cayenne has turned in to Porsche’s biggest cash cow) and that the anti-SUV lobby was simply a very small bunch of eco-mentalists making headlines.
