Rolls Royce – to many still the epitome of luxury motoring – is doing very well, and is now planning an expansion in to South America. The cynical may say that Rolls Royce want a piece of the drug money floating round South America in their coffers, but South America is far more than a bunch of drug barons freely spending illicit cash.

Salon Prive 2010 gets underway today for three days Salon Privé. It’s an event we are always happy to cheerlead because it offers a  great day out in great surroundings together with some of the best and most interesting cars on the planet – with complete access. Salon Privé 2010 kicked off today in the sumptuous grounds of the Hurlingham Club in Chelsea under an azure sky with just a trace of mackerel cloud for most of the afternoon.

Saab issued one of the few genuine surprises of the Geneva show: the Phoenix concept car, designed to show the newly independent brand's stylistic future. Named after the Phoenix platform underpinning many of the company's future products including next year's new 9-3, the concept car is a dramatic coupe. It's the first car designed by Jason Castriota, the new design chief.
