Call for ban on in-car hands-free phones
Tue, 19 Nov 2013Road safety charity Brake is calling for a blanket ban on in-car hands-free phone systems. Using a hand-held phone while driving is already illegal in the UK, so a proposal to prohibit even hands-free kits would completely eradicate calling from behind the wheel. On Bing: see pictures of people using mobile phones while driving 1 in 3 use mobile phone behind the wheel A decade on from when the mobile phone ban was introduced, Brake is asking the government to assess its policy on all forms of telephone communication while driving.
Bedford Autodrome to get Ariel Atoms for 2012
Thu, 15 Dec 2011Corporate track-days at the Bedford Autodrome will get lairier in 2012 - Somerset-based Ariel has announced it’ll supply ten cars for the PalmerSport track-day events next year. Stopping short of the unhinged Atom V8, the PalmerSport-spec cars get the normally aspirated 245bhp Civic Type-R engine, and some key changes to set it aside from the Joe-Public Atom. The Palmer-spec car will get a Sadev paddle-shift sequential gearbox, which swaps ratios in 60 milliseconds, whilst some choice chassis mods optimise the Atom for its full-time track-toy brief.
Toyota Fuel Cell Sedan
Wed, 25 Jun 2014The exterior design of the Toyota Fuel Cell Sedan has been unveiled and, much to our disappointment, it appears to be a productionized version of last year's FCV concept, a car we felt one of the least impressive of 2013 in terms of design resolution. The Fuel Cell Sedan retains the FCV's gaping lower mask gills that appear to be blanked-off in this instance. They lend the car a very aggressive, hungry face – surely a negative message for a car that majors on a technology that promises to be incredibly efficient and environmentally-friendly.
